Many people may be wondering if their pets are a source of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. To date, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have not received any reports of pets or other animals in the United States becoming sick with COVID-19.

That’s good news because our pets are often a huge source of comfort during times of high stress. There’s nothing like seeing your dog respond with absolute glee when you scratch their belly or hear your cat’s happy purring sounds when you rub under their chin. You bring joy to them and they bring joy to you.

Pets have other types of coronaviruses

It’s true. There are many types of coronaviruses. Examples include canine and feline coronaviruses, which cannot infect people and aren’t related to COVID-19. But, it’s always a good idea to practice healthy habits around pets, including washing your hands regularly, since they can spread other diseases to people.
