318. Keep a Survival Kit in Your Car

No car should be without a survival kit of items that you might need in the event you’re in an accident, run out of gas, have a breakdown, or get stuck. Items to include:

1. •First-aid kit (itemized in Tip 305).
   

2. •Flares.
   

3. •White cloth, for distress signal.
   

4. •Flashlight with spare batteries.
   

5. •Snow shovel.
   

6. •Knife or other basic tools.
   

7. •Empty gas can, for purchasing gas.
   

8. •Small fire extinguisher.
   

9. •Paper and pencil.
   

10. •Blanket.
    

11. •Change, for phone calls and tolls.
    

12. •Food and water, for long trips through unpopulated areas.
    

13. •Whistle.
