255. Getting Rid of Genital Warts
Genital warts are soft, moist, painless, pink or brownish skin growths that appear on the penis, lips of the vagina, anal area, and sometimes the cervix. Symptoms may include bleeding during a bowel movement or painful urination.
Genital warts are caused by a virus that’s transferred from one person to another during sex. Fortunately, treatment of genital warts is fairly simple.
The doctor may freeze the warts with liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery), cauterize them (burn them off with an electrically heated needle), or remove them with lasers or other minor surgery.
A prescribed cream or gel applied at home, can also treat genital warts. Over-the-counter treatments for warts should not be used in the genital area.
